Financial Aid

Summer Financial Aid

The UMF Financial Aid Office supports students who take advantage of the summer session and the financial benefits it offers: accumulating credits at a faster rate, free on-campus housing for certain students (contact the Student Life Office for details) and lower tuition (tuition increases usually take effect in the fall term). Summer financial aid is limited to returning students only. Incoming first-year students and new transfer students are not eligible for summer aid. Financial aid is available to eligible students who submit the required documents.

Required Documents

  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): Complete and submit the 2006-2007 FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA so that it is received by the Federal Processor by March 1, 2006. This is not a postmark date! The FAFSA can also be filled out on the internet at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

  • The Summer 2007 Financial Aid Application Supplement: You can obtain this form in the Financial Aid Office, on WebDSIS, as part of the online course registration guide.

Summer Aid Available

  • Federal Pell Grants: Depending on eligibility, students enrolled during the summer may receive a Pell Grant.

  • Student Employment: On-campus work opportunities are available on a limited basis to students during the summer sessions. The summer job listing will be available in early May on our Student Employment Page.

  • Loans: Depending on eligibility, students enrolled for six or more credits during the summer sessions may receive Federal Stafford Loans (for students) and/or Federal PLUS Loans (for parents). Stafford and PLUS Loans require separate applications available at the Financial Aid Office. Stafford Loan amounts are usually divided equally between semesters involved.

NOTE: The first disbursement of a Stafford or PLUS Loan can not be released until after the student starts his/her sixth credit of the summer and is based on the start dates reported on the Summer Financial Aid Supplement. Please keep in mind that changing courses for the summer which result in a different start date for the sixth credit may affect the timing of the release of loan funds.
