- The Federally-funded Federal Work-Study Program is designed to help you earn a portion
of your financial aid while giving you valuable work experience. You may not earn more
than the gross amount listed on your Student Employment Authorization.
- This is an employment opportunity. You will be paid only for hours actually worked. You
do not earn any vacation time or sick/personal time under the Work-Study program. (You may not work more than 40 hours in any one week). You
may only be paid wages for hours that you have worked as certified by the authorized
signature of your employer. You may never
submit time using your employers name. It is illegal and could result in criminal prosecution.
You cannot be paid wages for receiving academic instruction.
- It is your responsibility to obtain an approved Federal Work-Study position.
A list of available positions will be posted on the Student Employment
page. You should contact prospective employers as soon as possible to ensure that
you are considered for those particular positions. If you need assistance in finding an
approved position, contact the Financial Aid Office. Be sure to bring your Student
Employment Authorization Form with you when you are interviewed by a prospective
Federal Work-Study employer. Both you and your employer must sign the Student Employment
Authorization which signifies your acceptance of the position. Your or
your employer must return this form to the Financial Aid Office so that your
employment information can be processed..
- It is your responsibility to coordinate your work schedule with your supervisor and to
meet it to the best of your ability.
- If you are unable to work, it is expected that you will notify your supervisor in
advance.
- You are a representative of the University; therefore, your demeanor should be in
accordance with your supervisor's expectations.
- Your Federal Work-Study position is the same as any other job, and the lack of
performance or attendance is justifiable cause for your dismissal.
- You will be paid every two weeks. It
is your responsibility to see that your time is submitted on Maine Street
on daily basis for processing according to established policies. If your time
is not submitted properly and by the proper due date, you may NOT be paid until the following pay period - a
minimum delay of two weeks.
- Once you have accepted a job, you are expected to remain on that job for the employment
period (Summer or Academic Year) or until your Federal Work-Study allocation has been
earned. Under no circumstances should you quit a job before
first consulting with the Financial Aid Office. If,
after discussing your situation with a member of the Financial Aid staff, you do decide to
terminate employment, you are expected to give your supervisor two weeks notice. Only with
specific approval from the Financial Aid Office (which will be on an "exception"
basis) can a student obtain another job after having quit a job.
- If you find that the job that you have obtained will not allow you to earn your entire
allocation, you may obtain an additional position with prior approval from the Financial
Aid Office.
