Common Questions And Answers of Student Workers |
Can my paycheck be deposited directly into my bank account? Yes, direct deposit is available. You may arrange your direct deposit online at www.maine.edu. Choose 'Employee Access', sign into MaineStreet/PeopleSoft, then 'Employee Self Service' and finally 'Maintain Payroll Information'. Do I have to pay Social Security Tax? No, you do not have to pay Social Security Tax (FICA) if you are enrolled in school for six credits or more. If you drop below six credits, you will pay Social Security Tax. Do I have to pay Federal and/or State Tax? During the academic year, students do not usually work enough hours to have any taxes withheld. When can I pick up my paycheck? A pay schedule is included in the work authorization packet. The pay schedule will tell you when you need to submit your time and when you will get paid. If you have lost your pay schedule, please direct questions to your supervisor, or refer to the pay schedule found on our Student Employment Page. Where can I pick up my paycheck? Paychecks are available at the Mailroom/Switchboard located in the Olsen Student Center. Can you send me my paycheck? Your paycheck will be mailed to you if you provide the Mailroom/Switchboard with a self-addressed, stamped envelope. When can I pick up my work packet? Packets are normally available in the Financial Aid Office a week before classes begin for the Fall term. I have never had a job at UMF before. What do I need to do? Students new to the student work programs must attend one of the training sessions held at the beginning of each semester. You will need to complete an IRS W-4 Federal Withholdings Form, a State of Maine W-4 Withholdings Form, and an I-9 Federal Form to establish your identity and your eligibility to work. You will also have undergo Chemical Hazard Training. After the federal and state forms and chemical hazard training, each student must obtain and complete a Work Authorization Form before employment can begin. Students unable to attend a training session should contact the Financial Aid Office to make arrangements to complete the requirements mentioned above. |
