Scholarship Program

 

Description:

This scholarship is offered through the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME), and is intended to support and encourage individuals who are employed or are interested in being employed in the child care field.  This program provides funding to enable those interested in improving their skills in the child development field to take college courses and/or earn a certificate or degree with financial assistance.

Applicants must be residents of the State of Maine, be enrolled in one or more child development or early childhood education courses at an approved educational institution, be currently employed in a child care program, nursery school, Head Start, before and after school program, programs for children with special needs, or express a genuine interest to do so, and show financial need, as determined by FAME (The prior calendar year's total Household Adjusted Gross Income from Federal Income Tax Form 1040/1040A/1040EZ or Telefile, cannot exceed 300% of the federal poverty guidelines.).

Award:

Scholarship is awarded for up to two classes per semester with a maximum amount of $500 per eligible course, not to exceed $2,000 per year.

How to apply
:

Applications can be picked up at the Financial Aid Office, or from FAME by request at  1-800-228-3734, extension 306.  A completed application form, a signed copy of your latest Federal Income Tax Form 1040 (see application for details), a letter of acceptance from the college you will attend, and a statement of educational and employment goals must be included with the completed application form.
